Description
The early 19th century New Jersey cherry case tall clock with exceptional inlay throughout is topped by a cove molded swan neck split pediment crest capped with inlaid pinwheels over vertical bands of dark and light inlaid columns separating two inlaid ovals above the arched door supported by brass-capped Corinthian columns on the hood that sits atop a slender pendulum box replete with exuberant inlays and highly figured veneers on both case and arched door between reeded quarter columns recessed in each case corner above a cove molding over the outset base having bookmatched veneers framing a large circular cherry panel ringed in fine inlay. The clock stands on four thin block feet.

The unsigned brass-plate time-and-strike movement is fronted by a sheet iron dial with terrestrial globes and hand painted moon phase over hand painted floral spandrels bracketing the circular chapter ring of Roman numerals encloses two sub dials and the maker's name 'WmP Dawes ElizTH Town.

Measures 101 x 10 x 19.75 inches.

Provenance: The estate of Bob and Emma Stewart, Warrensburg, Missouri.

Condition
Very good intact running condition at the time of removal from the Stewart's home. We cannot guarantee the running or timekeeping condition of timepieces once removed from the auction premises. The case is in very good condition, noting veneer loss at each of the four corners of the base, the door is slightly bowed, otherwise very good condition overall free from damage, repair or wear. The dial is all original with edge chips all around, no serious damage or other serious loss beyond a few additional chips, no touch-up or inpainting.
