145: A late 19th century 15ct gold diamond enamel snake
A late 19th century 15ct gold diamond enamel snake brooch. The coiled blue enamel snake, with rose-cut diamond head and red-gem eyes, suspending a rose-cut diamond cluster and blue enamel heart. Length 4.4cms. Weight 11.5gms.
The lot is in fair overall condition with scratches and small dents in keeping with general wear. The piece has been re-enamelled. The heart has an open back and is probably deficient a glazed back locket compartment. The heart may be a replacement, the heart loop surmount is base metal, bent. The reverse of the brooch shows deep scratches and has been highly cleaned. The diamonds appear bright and well matched, estimated total diamond spread weight 0.25ct, though this in no way reflects the total diamond weight. Individual diamonds too small to accurately assess colour/clarity grades.
