Description
Ava Gardner's Personally Owned Colored Rhinestone Necklace and Earrings From the Sydney Guilaroff Collection W/Notarized Letter of Provenance - These beautiful gold tone necklace and clip-on earrings with multi-colored rhinestones were personally owned by American actress and singer, Ava Gardner. Ava Gardner first signed a contract with MGM in 1941 and established herself as a leading lady during the 1950s, becoming one of the era's top stars. During her career, Gardner earned Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award nominations, and in 1999 was ranked No. 25 on the American Film Institute's greatest female screen legends of classic American cinema list. The lot includes a notarized letter of provenance from notable hair stylist, Sydney Guilaroff, which states in part, "Ava gave me this costume jewelry ornate necklace with amber and brown and green iridescent rhinestones & similar costume gold 'burst' shaped clip-on earrings to add to my star worn collection. No one has worn them but Ava." Sydney Guilaroff was a hair stylist during Hollywood's Golden Age who was the first to receive on-screen credit in films. He worked for more than forty years at the Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios on more than a thousand films, and was instrumental in crafting many of the hairstyles which became the signature looks for numerous film stars, including Dorothy's braids in Wizard of Oz and Lucille Ball's red hair. Guilaroff was a friend, stylist, and confidante to many Golden Age stars including Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Audrey Hepburn, and Marilyn Monroe. Measurements: necklace-16" length, earrings-1.25" diameter.
