U.S. Civil War era staff and field officer's sword, with a gilt brass hilt, ebonized wood grip, and blued steel blade and scabbard, the hilt with a shield at the top and an eagle with a ribbon its beak and a book and flag in its talons at the grip, the other side with a folding clam shell counter guard, the scabbard with trumpet shaped upper rings. The blade etched with scrolling stylized foliate designs in the early war style and marked Virgil Price, New York, by the Ames Manufacturing Company, blade 31"l, overall length including handle and scabbard 38"l.
