Lot 109 View Catalog
French scenic wallpaper produced by Zuber et Cie in Rixheim (Alsace), France. The Zuber wallpaper, titled Scenes of North America, was printed from the original 19th century woodblocks. The 17 contiguous panels depict the sweeping panoramic scenes, "Boston Harbor", "Virginia Bridge" and "Niagara Falls" after Milbert. The wallpaper was ordered directly from Zuber in the early 1970's for a new residence and was never installed. Included with the panoramic scene are 24 panels of sky blue. All 41 panels have been treated with "Resistain" a product that protects the wallpaper from stains once it is installed. The panels have been carefully rolled up and stored in the original shipping containers and kept in a climate controlled storage facility. All panels are in excellent condition. There are no stains, tears, repairs or other damage. Each scenic panel measures 12' in length and 18" in width. The total approximate measurement in length of the 17 contiguous panels is 306" x 12' in height or (25 feet, 5 inches x 12 feet). The wallpaper is illustrated on pages 310-311 of the book French Scenic Wallpaper 1795-1865 by Odile Nouvel-Kammerer. In 1961 First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy had the Diplomatic Reception Room in the White House papered with the "Views of North America" Zuber wallpaper and these "Views of North America" Zuber scenes still hang in The White House today.
