Description
Magnificent limited edition prints, 8"x10", from watercolor Monotype's by noted American artist Sidnee Livingston. The first painting of this set shows Queen Liliuokalani in a pink dress with a white sash across his body and the second painting is of King Kalakaua wearing a blue general's suit. Artist's proof 3/9. Signed in block and each numbered in pencil, AP 3/9. Matted and framed. Frames: 16" x 12 1/2" Background on subjects: KALAKAUA & LILIUOKALANI Last king and queen of Hawaii. DAVID KALAKAUA (1836-1891) whose reformist ideas led to a revolution (1887) after which his powers were restricted by a new constitution. He traveled widely and is credited with Hawaii's cultural resurgence. Queen LYDIA LILIUOKALANI (1838-1917), upon the death of her brother, ascended the throne in 1891. She was deposed in 1894, and Hawaii was annexed to the US in 1898. While she was imprisoned by the Americans, the queen composed the famous song Aloha Ohe
