Antique Japanese porcelain platter in shell shape, hand painted, elaborate fine painting in Satsuma style, unmarked, c. Meiji or Taisho period [1910s-1920s].

The platter is c.8.7/8" [[c.22.6cm] across; some surface wear impacting painting [see photos], glaze imperfections on the back side matching the age, two small chips on the rim on the bottom side, no hairlines, no creases, good / very good condition. See photos.

Typical Meiji Satsuma is a creamy glazed earthenware, covered with miniature decorative motifs, such as women, samurai, Japanese gods or immortals, as well as flowers, animals and landscapes. These images were elaborately produced by hand: painted in enamel, glazed, gilded, and finally fired in a kiln.
