Revolutionary War Flaming Grenade Bomb Insignia Badge
c. 1775 Revolutionary War Period. “Flaming Grenade Bomb” Design. Insignia Badge. Hessian Grenadiers (German Mercenary) Troops. Cast Bronze. With its Original Double Shank. Extremely Fine.
Measures 23mm (.75”) in diameter. Intact Birdcage type recessed shank. This original, whole and complete Bronze Round Insignia Button Style Badge, was used by the Hessians (18-century German regiments in service with the British Empire as mercenary troops) brought across the Atlantic during the American Revolutionary War to serve the British Crown. They actively took part in major battles of the Revolutionary War (1775-1783), perhaps the most notable being the Battle of Trenton, New Jersey. This Flaming Bomb Grenadiers Badge is in high quality condition having a fully intact outer decorative rim. The last two examples of this type were somewhat larger, bringing $767 and $500 respectively. The natural rich patina is a beautiful smooth even brown. An excellent example for display.
