[Benjamin Franklin's Chart of the Gulf Stream] Subject: America, Atlantic Ocean Published: Paris Date: 1782 Description: One of the first charts of the Gulf Stream, this map was engraved by Le Rouge from an original drawn by Benjamin Franklin, which was based upon information supplied by Timothy Folger, Franklin's Nantucket sea captain cousin. The chart illustrates the effects of the Gulf Stream on ships crossing the Atlantic. Rare first edition. Size: Approx. 13.2'' x 19.3'' (14 x 59 cm) Color: Uncolored. Condition: Map is age toned with a few small spots of foxing; chipping and some staining to upper and lower margins, with handwritten notations in pencil at lower left, both front and verso; price of ''3500-'' also written in pencil at lower right.
