East Asia, Japan, late Edo to early Meiji period, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely pair of iron tsubas, both of discoid form. The thicker one is stamped with floral decoration, while the more petite shows smooth surfaces save for a signature in Japanese script next to the tang hole. Size of larger (floral stamps): 2.4" W x 2.6" H (6.1 cm x 6.6 cm)
Provenance: private Kihei, Hawaii, USA collection, smaller purchased from I.M. Chait Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, November 16, 1997, larger purchased from Jasper52 Auctions, New York, New York, USA, August 19, 2021.

Condition
Both have nicks and abrasions commensurate with age and larger has some softening to stamped detail. Otherwise, both are intact with rich patinas. Accompanied by cloth case.
