Item Details
Description
This model was designed in 1903 for the ‘Willow Tea Room’ project in Glasgow, from which it takes its name. The large backrest was used to divide the anteroom from the rear lounge, framing the seat in an articulated pattern of lines and shapes which reflects Mackintosh's geometric style.
Mackintosh, together with his wife Margaret Macdonald and the group "The Four", was one of the leading figures in the geometric Art Nouveau movement that flourished in early 20th century in Europe. Since 1973, Cassina has been reissuing Mackintosh's designs in collaboration with furniture craftsmen from Meda, in the Brianza region, north of Milan.
Backrest structure in solid ash wood stained in black. Base in ash-veneered beech plywood stained in black. Cushion in polyurethane foam and upholstery in green velvet.
It has some chipping and a restoration on the backrest.
119 x 93 x 42.5 cm.
