  • Description:Large Original Appraised As Tiffany Favrile Window Koi Parrots Blossoms 50x34 in Art Nouveau Leaded Stained Glass Stunning with Provenance. Please note this window is from the same local collection and from the same seller in the 1980s as the Tiffany window we sold for 127,500 USD last June, this local collector bought it as a Tiffany piece, however we are selling this as an attribution or After Tiffany. The work is unsigned. It comes with a photocopy of 1986 appraisal as Favrile by the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, New York, NY circa 1890s by ISA member Joseph Rappa of Orlando, Florida, Sept. 16, 1986, noting restoration by [Redacted] was the curator of the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum and is a long time Tiffany glass expert. We reached the former museum curator who was involved in the conservation and sale of this work back in the 1980’s and they informed us at their advanced age that they are not available to correspond on, speak about or provide any notes or further verification pertaining to this item. As a result, while this work is accompanied by the 1986 Rappa appraisal identifying this as Tiffany Favrille we are offering the work as by, after or in the manner of Tiffany Favrille. In 1893 at The Colombian Exposition Tiffany exhibited a very similar window with the birds in different positions. Two enthusiasts have made alternate sugguestions to us since we posted the window, one suggesting the composition is different so it could be after Tiffany while the other raised a possibility that subsequent to the exhibition of the 1893 window that Tiffany may have received another order for one, as was often the practice with exhibited artowrks at the great Expositions and Salons of the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. Note the window at the time of cataloguing was still installed in the consignors Florida, Gulf Coast area residence between two sunlit rooms. One side shows the koi in detail while the other side presents the bowl with the effect of near opaque moss in snow green jade with the koi as subtle silhouettes. On the greener bowl side, the surrounding glass shows as more iridescent. Wonderful expression of the Japanese, japonisme, Chinese, chinoiserie, Asian influenced Art Nouveau aesthetic. See detailed condition report. Note this item is scheduled for de-installation and transport to our offices between late February and early March, however due to the extreme impact of the three 2024 hurricanes, the availability of the contractor may be delayed and it is possible the window may be limited to photographic inspection, so we encourage interested parties to wait to contact our office for inspection and preview time information until approx. 10 days prior to the auction. If there is a removal delay that extends past the date of the auction, pick-up at our office will be as soon as it arrives -shortly after the sale, however, expect it in our office a week or more before the sale.
  • Provenance: Atlantic Studios [Redacted] MFA Orlando area circa 1986, to a Tampa Bay professional circa 1986 now downsizing in retirement. A copy of the 1986 Rappa appraisal accompanies the work.
  • Condition of piece: Very handsome estate discovery condition. As noted on the accompanying appraisal, this was restored by stained glass expert [Redacted}, MFA, former Morse Museum curator. See the discussion of orange and green light effects in the main listing, a number of panel cracks as illustrated in our many detailed images, use this site’s image scroll feature. Note that there is a distinct wave to the glass of several inches of undulation mostly throughout the second horizontal quarter band from the top. See the extensive discussion of the work having been photographed in sitiu and the work being slated for de-installation at the residence and transported to our office around the time of the auction.
  • Size: This window measures approx. 47 X 31 inches visible sight within the interior molding and continues under the interior molding, the innermost molding visible sight is approx. 48 X 32 inches and the visible sight of the second molding is approx. 50.25 X 34 inches. We estimate the actual size of the leaded portion to be between approx. 48 X 32 inches and approx. 50 X 34 inches. The white outer casement molding does not accompany the lot but is shown for reference and is approx. 59 X 39.25 inches.
