Description
A fine Japanese Shaku Dokei pillar clock. Shitan wood case with glaze canopy. The movement with balance wheel and engraved front plate. With original travelling box and cord. ca. 1830. With a pamphlet by Wilhelm Brandes (Germany) titled "The Ancient Japanese Pillar Clock" describing the use and how to read the clock.
Provenance: Purchased from Lee Benkendorf Fine Antique Clocks, Chicago, December 12, 1980.
