Museum Rarity Daum Nancy "Memory of the Empress" Imperial Russian Diplomatic Commemorative 5"

Ugh. This is an exceptionally rare piece that Mother Magnum has held in the back of the vault for well over a year. This auction is now the time to unlock the vault and bring it out for everyone to see. This is an exceptionally rare piece of Daum Nancy French cameo art glass. It is signed, "Daum Nancy." This tiny gem measures only 5" tall, but the amount of delicate, premier craftsmanship that went into this is unimaginable. This vase features a double eagle suggesting this piece may have been a commissioned work or a gift for Russian royalty. The double-headed eagle was a prominent symbol of the Romanov dynasty until 1917. It's a very unusual motif for Daum Nancy, which typically features more naturalistic themes. The verse on the vase is in French for "Memory of the Empress." The most plausible candidate would be Empress Feodorovna, the wife of Tsar Nicholas II until 1917 and the Russian Revolution. French was the language of Russian aristocracy in this period. It would only be natural for Daum being a French company to use French for such a piece. A piece such as this Daum Nancy in a cabinet size and such a historical connection is exceedingly rare and quite valuable, and seldom if ever do any like it come to auction.
