Chinese Tang Revival Bronze Floral Horse Sculpture
Chinese Tang Revival Bronze Floral Horse Sculpture
Item Details
Description
East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty to Republic era, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A Tang revival-style cast bronze horse, posed dynamically in a manner reminiscent of the powerful steeds of antiquity, evoking vitality. Its surface is decorated with floral motifs painted in copper-golden hues, lending decorative interest. The horse is simply cast, with somewhat coarse detailing and casting imperfections, with a molded saddle across its back. Though modest in execution, the sculpture reflects the cultural nostalgia and artistic revivalism that marked the transitional period from imperial China to the early Republic, when historical forms were widely reproduced for decorative use! Size: 13" L x 4" W x 10.75" H (33 cm x 10.2 cm x 27.3 cm)

Provenance: private Las Vegas, Nevada, USA collection; ex-Elegance Gallery & Auctioneers, December 16, 2017, lot 0252
