Item Details
Description
Giorgi de Chirico (1888-1978), Bronze sculpture of a kneeling woman holding a flower. Italian, circa 1940.
Chirico was an Italian painter and writer known for founding the Metaphysical Painting movement, which heavily influenced Surrealism. Born in Greece, de Chirico's early works featured a distinctive style characterized by empty city squares, long shadows, mannequins, and trains, often with a sense of mystery and unease. He later shifted to a neoclassical or neo-Baroque style while still revisiting metaphysical themes.
