Item Details
Description
Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) drawing titled 'Axa Center, NY 1985'. Signed. American, 1985.
Sol LeWitt was pivotal in the creation of the new radical aesthetic of the 1960's that contradicted the 'Abstract Expressionism' of the 50's and 60's New York school. He had no interest in narrative or descriptive imagery. LeWitt, like no other artist of his generation, maintained the importance of the concept or idea and, apart from his original works on paper, his work was executed by others to clear and strict instructions. This piece is a small single-page drawing meaning he likely completed it himself. It was completed the year before the Axa building was finished in NYC, its construction process likely inspired the detailed linework within this drawing.
Frame: H 13 in. W 16-1/4 in.
Paper: H 7-1/2 in. W 9-1/2 in.
Condition: Drawing is in great condition and is an excellent example of LeWitt's minimalist style. Frame has small chip on left edge.
