Description
East Asia, Japan, Arita ware, late Edo to Meiji period, ca. 19th century CE. A striking blue and white porcelain vase, tall and elegant with a flaring trumpet mouth rim delicately scalloped along the edge. The body is richly painted in deep cobalt blue with large stylized botanical medallions - floral and bamboo motifs among rocky garden landscapes - with scrolling floral tendrils. A pair of small applied white-glazed phoenix emerge from the shoulders, adding a dynamic three-dimensional element. Arita porcelain flourished under both domestic patronage and international export demand during the late Edo and Meiji periods. Size: 9" Diameter x 24" H (22.9 cm x 61 cm)
