Description

A Pair of Philadelphia Chippendale Walnut Side Chairs, Late 18th Century

Each having a shaped crest rail above a pierced splat, trapezoidal slip seat with needlework upholstery, the side rails having through tenons and pinned into the raked back legs, raised on square front legs with incising and inner chamfering, joined by stretchers. (2)

Dimensions: Height 38in; width 20 3/4in; depth of seat 15in; seat height 18in.

Condition

Structurally sound. Each retaining old surfaces. With scattered old minor breaks and repairs at joints and where splat meets shoe. Several new glue blocks beneath slip seats. Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions, scuffs and surface scratches overall.
