Description
Hamilton Hamilton (Connecticut/California, 1847-1926) impressionist oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman in a long white dress standing before a trellis covered in blooming roses. The trellis grows up the column of a house with a window visible behind the column. Signed "Hamilton Hamilton NA" lower right. Label en verso for Berry Hill Galleries, with title listed as "Young Woman Standing Before a Trellis of Flowers" and approximate date of 1890-1895. Giltwood frame with Neoclassical-style fluted, egg and dart and beaded moldings, and carved corner ornaments. Sight: 23 1/2 in H x 13 1/2 in W. Frame: 28 1/2 in H x 18 1/2 in W.

Provenance: Ex-Spencer Hays, Nashville, TN, by descent to his daughter.
Condition
Overall good condition. Craquelure throughout with stretcher marks. UV light inspection suggests scattered minor retouch spots to subject's hair, cheek and to background. Frame has some wear and small losses.
