Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (France, 1864-1901) color lithograph, 1898, Moulin Rouge / La Goulue, from Les Maitres de l'Affiche, pl. 122, after the artist's 1891 poster (Ref.: Delteil 339, Wittrock P1, Adrani 1). The can-can dancers La Goulue (The Glutton) and Valentin le Desosse (Valentin the Boneless) perform on stage at the Montmartre dance hall, Moulin Rouge, with stage lights at left and a crowd beyond shown in silhouette. Printed in 1898 by Impremiere Chaix, Paris, with blind stamp lower right. Printed information on this edition en verso of backing board. Literature: Masters of the Poster, no. 122. Housed under glass in a distressed silvered wood frame with black mat and gold reveal. Sheet: 15 3/8 in. H x 11 3/8 in. W. Sight: 12 3/4 in. H x 9 in. W. Frame: 23 1/2 in. H x 19 5/8 in. W.
