Presenting the 1973 Rolling Stones Cardiff Castle Poster RP4
You may not know the story behind this poster.
The original first printing (OP-1) of this poster is a very rare Rolling Stones poster for shows scheduled on September 22, 1973 at Cardiff Castle. The printed posters were reclaimed and destroyed after the event was cancelled due to the local government not wanting to host the types of people that this concert would bring into town. Very few original prints made it into the hands of collectors. Original posters sell for between $4000 and $5000, when and if you can find them.
The art was created by artist Kate Burness, for the concert in 1973. Kate has sold the actual first painting used to create the poster and that art is owned by Mick Jagger.
The poster is featured in The Art Of Rock as plate: AoR (Art of Rock) 4.273. It is marked as one of the most important posters in Rolling Stones history, and Rock and Roll history.
This is an amazing work of art for an RP-4, with the upmost in care and quality going into the production. Some have said it is better than the original. The foil treatment on the edges, the lettering, the claws and the wings, makes this short-run version (only 230 in the world) a fantastic collectible. Each print has a corresponding and accompanying 4 x 5 COA card. Each poster is 14 x 21.

The poster was printed on WestRock Tango C2S paper. This premium 92 bright Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) paperboard is coated on both sides and is sturdier than coated freesheet cover—for printed pieces that feel substantial and high quality. Tango C2S offers reliable runnability, printability and consistency. This board is laminated with DuPont 92ga high clarity silver Met Pet to achieve an ultra smooth printing surface . The printing technique is called archival pigment printing. Reproductions made by the commercial swissQprint digital printer, fit confidently into the Archival Pigment Printing scene, thanks to droplet placement having been perfected over the years. Specifically, it's about the combination of state-of-the-art print head technology with solid precision mechanics and an accurate control system. Every dot lands exactly where it should, so the viewer is presented with a harmonious overall picture.
Each of these MINT posters have been selling for between $300 and $350. Of the 230 run, there are only a few available.
