Description
Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975) Regionalist lithograph, "Homecoming - Kaw Valley, 1951," 1951. A family returns to their ruined home following the disastrous 1951 Kaw (Kansas) River flood. Signed in pencil and titled in the stone, lower margin. Housed under glass in a silvered and painted wood frame with cream mat. Sight: 12 in H x 15 1/8 in W. Frame: 19 1/4 in H x 22 in W. Note: According to Creekmore Fath's THE LITHOGRAPHS OF THOMAS HART BENTON, Benton also created and signed offset lithographic reproductions of this print for members of the U.S. Congress as well as to raise funds for the flood victims. The present example, however, is from the original lithographic edition and is not an offset lithograph.

Condition
1/2 in L tear with pinpoint loss to right of toppled house, near right margin. Faint staining to upper- and lower-right corners and to area of exposed paper at right of central figure. Not examined out of frame. Frame with minor abrasions and losses.
