German WW2 Model 1943 Field Jacket – Tagged “38 R" / M-1943

This is a wartime Model 1943 German field jacket, tagged inside the collar as “Jacket, Field, M-1943” and size-marked “38 R”. Constructed from field-grey wool blend with standard five-button front, adjustable cuffs, and angled internal pockets, this jacket reflects the simplified, functional design adopted by German forces in the later war years. The tag format and overall cut suggest this example may be part of a later-war production run.

The M43 field jacket replaced earlier tunic styles with a more utilitarian design suitable for both combat and colder weather, adopted by all branches of the Wehrmacht. Its simplified construction also made it faster to produce during wartime shortages. The M43 saw extensive use on both Eastern and Western Fronts and became a defining silhouette of German infantry in the war’s final years.
