Description
A group of two design illustrations by Jacqueline Mills for Diana, Princess of Wales. The three hand-drawn illustrations, featuring evening and day fashion designs, are a mixed medium of ink, lead, and watercolors, signed "J.S. Mills" at the bottom, with additional notations describing the designs and fabric swatches.
The first design is an evening dress made of silk with gold sequins and embroidered accents. Mills notates and writes, "Dress. Fitted Bodice, round neck. Epaullets, long sleeves pleated into armhole. Split open to reveal arm. Open sleeve held at the elbow with small bow. Centre back opening of the buttons and loops. Slightly gathered skirt." This is the design for which Diana had a toile made and was discussed in her correspondence with the designer regarding sourcing a specific fabric.
The second design is a periwinkle colored day dress with a defined waist. Mills notates and writes, "High wing collar and tie. Dolman-shaped sleeves. Blouse pleated into fitted [waist]. Centre front button opening. Straight skirt with pleats into waistband."
This illustration comes with a stamped envelope addressed to designer Jacqueline Mills with the "ER" cipher and a "D" in the bottom left-hand corner.
Jacqueline Mills is an Emmy Award-winning costume designer whose work has been featured in BAFTA Award-winning programs, including "Dodger" on the BBC.
