Description
A pair of Rayne white leather pumps belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana wore the pumps with a tonal grey silk Catherine Walker suit with a houndstooth print for a visit to the British School in Jakarta, Indonesia, in November 1989.
A pair of Rayne white leather court shoes with quilted cap toes. The interior soles are made of matte leather, featuring a branded gold-tone stamp and a royal crest. The exterior soles are made of natural, cured, tanned leather.
Rayne is a luxury shoe manufacturer with a warrant from the crown, having supplied shoes and handbags to the royal household. Their designs are stamped "BY APPOINTMENT TO H.M. THE QUEEN SHOE MAKERS AND HANDBAG MANUFACTURERS." Rayne was founded in 1885, supplying shoes for theater companies and stage productions. In the 20th century, the brand designed lines of shoes for high society and leading ladies such as Vivien Leigh. In 1947, Queen Elizabeth II wore a pair of Rayne satin heels on her wedding day, and in 1950, she granted Rayne a royal warrant as a shoe manufacturer.
Diana, Princess of Wales, personally gifted this property to the consignor.
