Item Details
Description

A pair of two-tone leather pumps with a medium-sized heel, designed by Rayne, belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales. Princess Diana was photographed wearing these shoes on an official visit to Cairo, Egypt, in May 1992. Diana wore the shoes with a pale green Catherine Walker dress featuring cream accents at the bodice and cuffs, along with a patterned shawl scarf she wrapped around her head to comply with Muslim custom by covering her hair when visiting the mosque.

A pair of matte-leather cream and beige mid-heel court shoes designed by Rayne. The exterior is composed of cream leather with beige heels and toe caps accented with a whip-stitch detail. The outer soles of the shoes are composed of natural, tanned leather, and the interior soles are lined with cream-colored leather and feature a gold-tone foil Rayne stamp. The two-tone spectator pumps were the favored design and style worn and commissioned by Diana.

Rayne is a luxury shoe manufacturer with a warrant from the crown, having supplied shoes and handbags to the royal household. Their designs are stamped with "BY APPOINTMENT TO H.M. THE QUEEN HANDBAG MANUFACTURERS." Rayne was founded in 1885, supplying shoes for theater companies and stage productions. In the 20th century the brand designed lines of shoes for high-society as well as leading ladies such as Vivien Leigh. In 1947, Queen Elizabeth II wore a pair of Rayne satin heels on her wedding day, and in 1950, she granted Rayne a royal warrant as a shoe manufacturer.

Diana, Princess of Wales, personally gifted this property to the consignor.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK.

The property comes with a copy of Dressing Diana, photographs by Tim Graham, text by Tasmin Blanchard.
