Description
A mixed medium evening gown fashion illustration by Victor Stiebel for H.R.H. Princess Margaret, circa late 1950s, since Stiebel opened his couture house in 1958. He also designed Princess Margaret's going-away outfit following her wedding to Anthony Armstrong-Jones on May 6, 1960.
The illustration features Princess Margaret in a full-length feathered evening gown with a tiara and necklace. Below the illustration is a caption that reads, "A FULL CRINOLINE EVENING DRESS OF WHITE SILK NET EMBROIDERED WITH OSTRICH AND DIAMONDS. THE BODICE AND GUAGED SLEEVES IS BORDERED WITH DIAMONDS ANS [AND] OSTRICH." Victor Stiebel's signature is located at the bottom right-hand corner.
An original swatch of white tulle is stapled to the interior of the paper bifold the illustration is placed in.
Born in South Africa, Victor Stiebel was a British couturier whose clients included Hollywood actresses Katherine Hepburn and Vivien Leigh.
