Description
BRITISH OR AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIR, the squared, slightly arched, molded-edge crest rail over a vasiform splat having five vertical lobate Gothic-style piercings mortised into a separate shoe, above a trapezoidal seat frame, raised on square molded legs with chamfered inner edge joined with off-set box stretcher. Retains an old finished surface, replaced seat frame, and oak cornerblocks which appear to be old additions. In the style of Williamsburg, VA. Fourth quarter 18th century. 34 3/4" HOA, 14 3/4" H seat (to the top edge of the seat frame), 15" x 20 1/2" OA seat.

Condition
Good condition overall with moderate signs of wear including the wearing down of the edges of the seat frame; an old repaired break to the rear of the crest rail where the splat mortises into it;Â the splat with an old repaired crack; one side stretcher with an old repair.Â
