Description

Lionel Prewar Vintage U.S. Navy Naval Equipment Communication or Signal Metal Housing/ Lifeboat Binnacle, in C6 to C7 because of tarnish. This is a vintage U.S. Navy communication or signal device, likely used in the early to mid-20th Century. The item features a rectangular metal housing with a large front glass panel, a hinged access panel and two top mounted islet hooks for mounting or transfer. The device is constructed primarily brass or copper with riveted reinforcements and the worn, aged patina indicative of prolonged use in marine environments. Manufactured by the Lionel Corporation, this piece reflects the Lionel Company wartime production efforts when it supplied electrical and navigational components for the military. There is no compass inside this metal housing.
