the sides of the kettle are decorated with a continuous landscape panorama showing a Japanese castle, pine forest, boats are sea and distant mountains, cast in low relief on the surface of the iron. Very few Edo period cast-iron cooking pots have survived. Corrosion inevitably took its toll.
