BRONZE TRIPOD FLOOR LAMP WITH LEADED GLASS SHADE ATTRIBUTED TO TIFFANY STUDIOS

A very interesting bronze floor lamp with leaded glass shade attributed to Tiffany Studios, with both shade and base bearing Tiffany Studios signatures. The base is a patinated bronze three-legged form, consisting of three dragons - or possibly chimeric birds - with highly detailed outstretched wings, each with a ring in its mouth. Each creature terminates in a three-toed claw, which serves as the feet of the base. Atop the creatures is round tabletop and three socket cluster, on which the shade sits. The top of the base bears the signature "Tiffany Studios New York S1709". The shade is a 16" diameter leaded glass shade with curtain border motif and a large green turtleback at the apex. The shade is composed of green and caramel colored tiles with a curtain border in mottled pinks and yellows. The turtleback is green and highly iridescent. The interior rim of the shade is signed "Tiffany Studios New York 1516", and additionally there is a "2" next to the 1516. A lamp of similar form and construction is on display at the New York Historical Society, gift of Egon Neustadt and is described as a possibly experimental design by Tiffany Studios.
