Ancient Mexican Mezcala Greenstone Temple Model

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A greenstone temple model, skillfully carved in the abstract geometric style characteristic of Mezcala ritual art. The form presents a rectangular structure with a openwork facade, featuring three narrow vertical slits suggestive of temple doorways or sacred recesses. The top and base are both horizontally banded, evoking architectural cornices and platforms. Size: 4.5" L x 2.75" W (11.4 cm x 7 cm)
