BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Waters grew up in Perth Amboy, attended St. Mary?’s High School, Perth Amboy, and graduated from Cooper Union Art Institute, New York, with a degree in graphic arts. He later served in the Air Force and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan where many of his drawings are in national and private collections. Mr. Waters began sketching birds at an early age, but was constantly rejuvenated by the delicacy of the structure and function of his subjects. While he is especially known for his paintings of birds, it has been said of him that ?“no contemporary painter captures the mood of the landscape more beautifully.?” The late Edward Marshall Boehm, an internationally known sculptor and collector, said of Waters: "?“The bird man with knowledge, skill and style; an extraordinary combination. A poet with a paint brush ".?” Since Waters painted primarily on commission, his paintings are rarely seen in galleries. However, his works are included in such well-known collections as that of the late Edward Marshall Boehm, Cybis Porcelain, Inc., the late J.P. Stevens, the late Mrs. Mary G. Roebling, Colonel Edward ?“Buzz?” Aldrin and Lady Palmer of Devon, England. His paintings of the New Jersey state bird, ?“Goldfinch on Thistle,?” was commissioned for the New Jersey State Museum. Other museums displaying his paintings include the Florida State Museum, ?“La Pietra?” in Florence, Italy and the Vatican Museum in Rome. Mr. Waters was active in his community as a member of Saint Luke?’s Parish in Long Valley, the Middle Valley Community Center, Washington Township Land Trust and numerous nature conservancy organizations.
