BIOGRAPHY:
The Misses Marie and Adele Pratt studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City, where their work has been exhibited numerous times. Marie gained prominence in a symphony of murals, portraits, and landscapes. Under the tutelage of Sir Joseph P. Birens and Lorenzo Mazzonovitch, both of the Chicago Institute of Fine Arts, the Misses Pratt attained their gift of spontaneity in color and form, which places their work above the limits of just good draftsmanship, for which they are also duly noted. Adele’s group of wilderness subjects has carved a niche through its appeal to the trail wanderer, from here to Florida. The sisters have traveled extensively, visiting the rural spots of the states, catching with facility the characteristic moods of nature. They have exhibited in Iowa, Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, Louisiana, Florida, New Jersey, and Vermont, along with their native New York State. Their paintings are in collectors' galleries, including the Landis, Waterman, and Redfield Proctor groups. Since coming to upper New York State several years ago, they have been instrumental in stimulating an interest in art, being active members and exhibitors in outstanding groups, among them The Southern Vermont Artists, Mid-Vermont Artists, Middlebury, and Bennington Art Associations. Their winter studio is in Sarasota, Florida, where they spend their winters. When not actively engaged in teaching, they are painting, filling their canvases with the salty tang and vivid color of the tropics.
