BIOGRAPHY:
He was born February 20, 1934 in the village of Salamanca, Spain. In 1946, at age twelve, he was admitted into the Escuela de Artes y Officios where he studied drawing, art history and sciences. In 1952 he entered the Real Academia de Bellas Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. Versatile in every medium from ink to oil, Fuentes concentrated on the human form early in his career and became known for his portrayals of biblical characters. The highpoint in his career came in 1986 when he was commissioned by the Church of Rome to paint an image of St. Francisco Palau y Quer (1811-1872). Accepted by Pope John II, the oil now hangs in Vatican City.
