BIOGRAPHY:
Antonin Marek Machourek was a world-famous painter and member of the Paris Salon Independans. His father was killed at the beginning of World War I and his mother was offered a job at the then Imperial-Royal Higher Military Academy in Hranice. Antonin was very talented, which was noticed by the teachers at the bourgeois school and they recommended him to study at the State School of Applied Arts in Prague.Antonin took their advice and studied graphics there and privately also figurative drawing and painting. Already during his studies he participated in the designs of Czechoslovak stamps and exhibition posters. In 1937 he took part in a study trip to the Balkans, Greece and Italy and was accepted into Max Svabinsky's figurative school at the Academy of Fine Arts. During his studies, Antonin drew many book covers, illustrated several books, but most of all he devoted himself to painting.He also held exhibitions with his friends in Prague. Among his exhibited paintings were paintings with the theme of the Hranice region, such as Kostelicek or the village square in Cernotin. In the autumn of 1945, he completed his studies and received a scholarship from the French government to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. There, his first mosaic paintings made of natural stones were created. He also participated in exhibitions of the Salon Independans (Independents) every year and was later accepted as a member of this association.
