BIOGRAPHY:
Rider (occasionally spelled Ryder) was born in Salem, Massachusetts. He attended Newton schools and studied at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and overseas at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Julian in Paris. He belonged to several art associations and exhibited locally at the Boston Art Club and the Newton Club in 1895-96. He was professor of art at Lasell Junior College and Mt. Ida Junior College, both in Newton, and superintendent of art in the Dedham public schools.The Charles was a favorite motif for Rider, who lived near the river in Auburndale, a part of Newton.
