BIOGRAPHY:
Barron Storey (born 1940) is an American illustrator, graphic novelist, and educator known for his influential work in illustration and fine art. Trained at ArtCenter College of Design and later under Robert Weaver at the School of Visual Arts, he began his professional career in the 1960s. Storey created illustrations for major magazines such as National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, and Time, where his portraits of Howard Hughes and Yitzhak Rabin entered the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. He also produced notable book illustrations, including editions for the Franklin Library such as War and Peace, The Good Earth, and works by Sinclair Lewis. His 1980 cover for Lord of the Flies remains one of his most recognized pieces. In addition to commercial illustration, Storey became well known for his graphic novels and comics, including The Marat/Sade Journals, Tales from the Edge, and his contribution to Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman: Endless Nights, which received an Eisner Award. A highly respected teacher, Storey has taught since the 1970s at institutions including the School of Visual Arts, Pratt Institute, California College of the Arts, and San Jose State University. He lives in San Francisco, California.
