Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 24, 1960, a son of the late John A. and the late Eileen Bennett McDermott, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of the Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High School with the Class of 1978. He then went on to graduate from Boston's New England School of Art (now part of Suffolk University and Design) in 1982.
