Circa 1820 Double Chain Fusee Mantel Clock, by master clockmaker James Moore French (c. 1781-1842) of 15 Sweetings Alley, Royal Exchange, London, with eight day double fusee time and striking movement (with key), with side mounted pull cord (likely for repeater function); the engraved brass movement signed behind the pendulum bob; in a brass inlaid ebonized wooden case with stepped top pediment, brass finial, side handles and ball form feet; the enameled convex metal face with black Roman numerals signed "French, Royal Exchange, London", set on convex glass with brass bezel and side lock with key.French was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1810, and he became one of London's most famous and respected maker of clocks, watches and chronometers. He worked at Sweetings Alley in the Royal Exchange from 1808 to 1838.
