Geoffrey Michael Turner (1934 - 1 December 2025) was a British illustrator who specialised in motoring and aviation paintings. He is regarded as one of the early examples of such type and one of the most highly regarded. Turner had racing drivers, teams, sponsors, pilots, motor and aircraft manufacturers, R.A.F. (Royal Air Force) and Army messes, museums and private collections on his client lists and has hosted a number of solo shows all over the world, plus other specialist shows.Michael Turner (1934-2021) was a celebrated British artist best known for his dynamic aviation and motorsport paintings.Born and raised in Harrow, his passion for aircraft and racing began in childhood. After art college and national service, he became a freelance illustrator in 1957. His work quickly gained prominence, appearing on magazine covers and the walls of London's Steering Wheel Club.In the 1960s, he founded 'Studio 88' to publish his popular prints and Christmas cards. He became the preeminent poster artist for major global racing events, creating iconic official posters for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring, and numerous Formula One races, including a celebrated series for the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.Deeply embedded in the motorsport world, Turner had a close association with the McLaren team. He designed the bodywork for the race-winning McLaren M1B Can-Am car, created the original team logo, and devised the livery for McLaren's first Formula One car in 1966.A founder member and later President of the Guild of Aviation Artists and an honorary fellow of the Guild of Motoring Artists, Turner's art was published in six books and appeared worldwide in exhibitions, private collections, and even on Airfix model kits.
