BIOGRAPHY:
Isaac Cornelis Elink Sterk Amsterdam, 6 January 1808 – The Hague, 15 June 1871) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and lithographer. He signed his work as I.C. Elink Sterk or Elink Sterk . Scheen lists him as Sterk, Isaac Cornelis Elink.(Elink) Sterk was a son of broker Augustus Elink Sterk (1773-1822) and his second wife Anna Willemina Holstijn (1768-1824). He was baptized at home by his grandfather, former preacher Augustus Sterk. Isaac settled in The Hague, where he was taught by Cornelis Kruseman. Kruseman was a brother-in-law of Isaac's half-brother Augustus Jr., they both testified at Kruseman's wedding in 1832. In 1838 Isaac married Hester Keurenaer (1817-1903).Elink Sterk mainly drew and painted portraits, he also made lithographs after works by artists such as Ary Scheffer, Aleida Budde and Jan Willem Pieneman. He took part in exhibitions of Living Masters in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. He became secretary of the Hague Drawing Academy. He was a teacher of Matthijs Maris and Jan Weissenbruch.Elink Sterk passed away at the age of 63.
