BIOGRAPHY:
Clyde Prettyman was born in Los Angeles, California in January, 1886 to Elwood and Hannah Prettyman. Early in his life he worked in mining camps in Arizona and toured with a theater troupe before settling in Akron, Ohio where he studied art. Of his personal life it is only known that he married Ruth R. Miller, also an artist, in 1912 in New Paris, Ohio. His marriage license states that he was an artist with Collier's and at that time was living in Clifton, Arizona. By the 1930's he maintained studio space in New York City and was likely a member of the Society of Illustrators. Prettyman exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art's annual May Show in 1921.
