Description
Elegant late 18th century American Revolutionary War era cavalry sword captures the refined martial elegance of light horse regiments. Long, gently curved single edged blade, forged in the classic Spanish tradition, exhibits a mellowed steel gray patina of honest age, with faint surface wear and crisp edges, retaining solid integrity with no play or detrimental flaws. The reverse face of the blade bears the deeply struck inscription "CAVALLERIA T.o 1775" flanked by partial regimental markings, attesting to its issuance to a cavalry officer in 1775 and lending vivid historical resonance, the inscription on the obverse is unreadable. The hilt, a masterpiece of silversmithing, features a boldly cast silver shell guard richly engraved with a lion and an eagle, a sturdy knuckle bow and a distinctive helm shaped pommel crowned by a flowing horsehair plume crest. The grip, wrapped in dark chequered horn scales secured by silver ferrules and wire binding, offers secure purchase and tactile contrast to the gleaming metal. Very good condition overall. Full Length 38.5 Inches Blade Length 32.5 Inches. Full length inches, blade length inches.
