Description
A near pair of French Louis XV style commodes, each with serpentine fronts and bombe sides, rising on cabriole legs terminating in sabots. The cases are richly veneered in figured woods with floral marquetry inlays to the drawer fronts and sides, framed by cast ormolu mounts at the corners, escutcheons, and pulls. Each is fitted with three drawers and surmounted by a shaped coral-toned marble top with pronounced veining, the marble following the sinuous outline of the case. The elegant curvature, bronze mounts, and warm walnut-toned veneers reflect the enduring appeal of the Louis XV aesthetic, while construction details and finish suggest late 19th century manufacture, likely French or Continental. An impressive decorative statement as bedside chests or flanking pieces in a formal interior. Each measures 36 in T, 39 in W, 17 in D.
Condition
Great condition overall. Marble tops well fitted with minor surface wear consistent with age; veneers and mounts intact with expected light wear.
