Belle Starr Ranch is situated on Lake Eufala in McIntosh County Oklahoma.
Lake Eufaula is the largest lake located entirely in the state of Oklahoma. With over 600 miles of shoreline and 102,000 surface acres, Eufaula offers a variety of recreational opportunities for everyone. The shoreline ranges from vast expanses of sandy beaches to rocky bluffs.
Eufaula Lake, 15th largest in the United States and known as the "Gentle-Giant" . With fishing available on the lake year round, spring and fall are the most beautiful time of year to fish because of the spectacular scenery of Southeast Oklahoma. The lake boasts such fish as striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, catfish, walleye, and numerous sunfish.
The lake boasts of not one, but two outstanding resorts. Fountainhead Resort Hotel and Conference Center is located in McIntosh County at the north end of the Fountainhead State Park. Arrowhead Resort and Gaming Center is in Pittsburg County on the opposite end of the lake. Built of native stone and rough timbers, Arrowhead becomes part of the rustic scenery that makes the resort a popular place to stay. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma owns and operates Arrowhead with the special feature of High Stakes Bingo. The two resorts, plus all of the other attractions on the lake, are complemented by a hospitality acknowledged by visitors from all over the country. One of the most famous landmarks of the area has vanished beneath the waters of Lake Eufaula. Standing Rock, which stood 63 feet above the waters of the Canadian River five miles east of Eufaula, was noted as a fishing spot by early day settlers. Standing Rock was first recorded on papers of early day Spanish explorers. Norse runes carved on the rock were believed by some to have pointed to the location of buried treasure. Belle Starr "Queen of the Bandits”, the most famous woman outlaw, lived and is buried about 15 miles east of Eufaula. Belle made her home in this region from 1873 to 1888. Here also was the hideout of her gang, and at times of the Younger brothers and Jessie and Frank James. Belle’s grave is located in a bend of the Canadian River, just downstream and northeast of the Eufaula Dam. A cave, a canyon, and other historical sites are named for her around the area.
The City of Eufaula is situated around beautiful Eufaula Cove. This is the gateway to many outdoor activities such as camping, boating, water skiing, and of course fishing. The lake is full of large mouth bass, sand bass, crappie, and catfish and is host to many fishing tournaments throughout the year.
