THE DIAL SIGNED FOR BRISCARD, PARIS, LOUIS XVI STYLE, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The circular eight-day two train bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by rectangular bob pendulum with Brocot type regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with a square-rigged sailing ship trademark over serial number 16282, the 3 inch circular white enamel Roman numeral dial inscribed in puce Briscard, PARIS to centre and with Arabic five minutes beyond the outer minute track, with fine gilt scroll pierced and engraved hands set behind hinged engine milled convex glazed bezel, the case with a patinated figure of a standing winged cherub over brass disc bordered with gilt bead moulding set on a fluted column plinth with dupont top moulding over cast ribbon-tied floral trail draped over the dial, the rear with radial scroll pierced hinged brass cover, over gilt laurel base moulding set on a square tablet plinth inset with figural cast panel to front and rosette decorated guilloche scrolls to sides, on turned feet; matched with a pair of candelabra side pieces, late 19th century, modelled as standing cherubs each holding forth twin Neoclassical scroll branches (one detached) terminating with leaf decorated drip pans and candle sockets, the base formed as a column plinth with bell-flower cast inserts to the flutes over twist gilt base moulding, on cavetto moulded square plinth base applied with gilt bead moulding and leafy trail mount to front over engine-milled feet, (3)
