Description
This Antique 13 inch tall doll, Rare African American Doll is a true treasure excellent condition with slant head and cork pate.
was manufactured in Paris by Fleischman & Bloedel. According to my research and the collective knowledge of Foulke, Theimer, Edward, the Colemans, and the Porots, this company originally started in Germany and then bought the Jumeau firm, later manufactured the Eden Bebe, and finally joined SFBJ. This is an earlier French doll, circa the late 1900s, with a pressed bisque socket head and a heavy five piece composition/papier mache body. The mouth is closed with a slight white line between the upper and lower lips, brown papier weight glass set eyes, and the original black mohair wig and cork pate. The back of the head, with no chips, cracks, or repairs, is incised, 4/0" The heavy 5 piece composition/papier mache body is jointed at eh shoulders and hips. The body finish is original with some signs of age including superficial lines down the legs and wear to the paint.
