1863 3 Cents United States Fractional Currency Note, Third Issue.
The note depicts a portrait of George Washington. As part of the Third Issue, it features signatures from banking officers and is the only series to include a three-cent denomination. It also has "ACT OF MARCH 3d 1863" printed on it, referencing the legislation that authorized its issuance.

This note represents a form of fractional currency or state bank note, which were issued by individual banks chartered by states before the establishment of a uniform national currency. The Veazie Bank, chartered in Maine, was known for issuing its own bank notes.
